This whole matter is a hot mess for lack of a better word. I was reading this exchange and ducking from the 1960s Batman-like sound effects from the verbal darts being thrown back and forth between Representative Joseph Mitchell, an African-American Alabama State Senator, and Eddie Maxwell, a white constituent, who dared to warn his representatives that gun control laws were a violation of the Constitution, and any official advocating for them was committing a "crime."
In response, Mitchell goes hard and suggests that black people had best stock up on arms to protect themselves from the white folks who pray at The Temple of the Gun Right:

Hey man. You have used the word ‘except’ when I think you mean somethin’ else.
Hey man. Your folk never used all this sheit to protect my folk from your slave-holding, murdering, adulterous, baby-raping, incestuous, snaggle-toothed, backward-a**ed, inbreed, imported criminal-minded kin folk. You can keep sending me stuff like you have however because it helps me explain to my constituents why they should protect that 2nd amendment thing AFTER we finish stocking up on spare parts, munitions and the like.
Bring it. As one of my friends in the Alabama Senate suggested – “BRING IT!!!!”
JOSEPHm, a prepper (’70-’13)1100 comments later we are witness to a mix of white conservative colorblind racism myth making-victimology, Maxwell's standard script of having a "best black friend," being warned about "dangerous negroes with knives" back in the 1960s, and how "racism" is not the soul sin of white folks:

Rep. Mitchell and other members of the Legislature of Alabama,
That’s not the type of reply I expect to receive from a state legislator. The lack of response to your racist comments from your fellow members speaks volumes about the state of our legislature as a whole.
I’m not a racist and I find your reply to be especially offensive considering the position you hold.
My parents and grandparents taught me to love God and my fellow man as myself. My father was threatened by members of his church back in 1954 for inviting a black family to attend the church he pastored.
My father-in-law was threatened when he hired a young negro man to work in his shop back in 1968 in a community where several neighbors were members of the Ku Klux Klan. He didn’t allow those threats to keep him from treating people of all races equally.
In 1969, I was a draftee in the US Army and bunked with a young negro man named Earl Shinholster at Fort Benning. Earl later became a prominent leader of the NAACP back home in Georgia after serving with me in the Army. When I received numerous racist threats from negroes who knew I lived near Birmingham, Earl warned me of the knives they carried and cautioned me to be more careful around them. Earl had been watching me and he had come to know and respect me for my Christian values. Earl and I became friends and he helped me get through some tough times there.
Racism is not exclusive to my own people. I learned that before 1955. It is just as ugly now as it was then, regardless of the race of the person who is consumed by it.
I love my country and my state, and I vowed to support and defend our constitutions. I expect you and all of our representative to do the same.
Sincerely,Whatever his stylistic choices in this very unprofessional exchange, Representative Mitchell points out an interesting dilemma for Tea Party authoritarian conservatives--they have discovered an obsession with "human rights and liberty" when in fact their intellectual, moral, and philosophical roots are with the neo-Confederacy and the John Birchers.
Eddie Maxwell
Where were the "freedom advocates" and "patriots" who are now a dime a dozen on the Right, and love to dress up like zombie George Washington spouting all of that liberty rhetoric, when when black folks were being hung from trees or suffering under Jim and Jane Crow? Did these Tea Party "patriots" march with Brother King and others against the day-to-day tyranny of the white supremacist South (and in many ways, North too).
I think you know my answer to that question...
Guns, race, state politics, ego, and passion do make for some great political theater.

It wasn't very professional but good for the Senator. I guess he got fed up with the veiled threats. And what he said is not untrue. This is why when the violence of young blacks today is highlighted in comparison with whites, it's amusing. Do they really think that whites have suddenly become civilized after centuries of horrific acts? Or maybe that they simply became bored in a "been there, done that" sort of way? Of course not, they have simply found a way to conceal it. Usually in way that can never be counted, like the military. Or DEA, or CIA, or Mercenary but since the media doesn't have access to those, the next best thing is blacks who are stuck in urban areas instead of stationed in South America or raping and killing women in Japan. It is completely dishonest in its lopsidedness. If all the numbers were in, I'm sure it would show that even today, blacks are no more violent than whites. The disparity lies in the victims they choose.
He might not have wanted to be so bold though because, I believe whites do outnumber blacks in gun ownership. If ever the law abiding urban blacks were to get hip to that second amendment argument and start advocating for repeal in gun control states. Or begin stockpiling and throwing teenage shooting range parties, a la Lanza, you can bet many of them would hop on the gun-control bandwagon and quickly.
I will leave up your rant. Paragraphs on your friends. Your comment reminds me of that comment in the movie Seven about an unhinged mind pouring itself out onto the page.
But seriously, and I will take this up next week, what was "racist" and the State Rep's comments? He could be spot on wrong about the man's lineage and family. He was impolitic. Racist? No.
White conservatives in the 1960s against the Panthers. History teaches us.
The Panthers = the KKK......same hate, different color. I guess militant, hate filled organization spreading their race based views by violent means is acceptable as long as you are black eh? It is quite funny that you consider yourself an educated man, but yet are so blinded by the color of one's skin.
Why are you so obsessed with propagating the white vs. black mentality? Being black is not an excuse for promoting the ignorance of this us vs. them mentality that you do here. You really need to grow up and learn to think beyond the color of people's skin.
Thanks for sharing your info. I truly appreciate your efforts and I
am waiting for your next write ups thanks
once again.

Good job, disrespectful racist negroes! You're totally helping to fulfill MLK's dream! Oh, wait .. honestly if he could see how you guys and people like Mitchell have taken the old angle on racism and spun it back around .. he'd probably be ready to go brawling with guys like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. Those guys used their time with him and his untimely death to go and pervert everything he stood for .. and died for .. to do the same thing YOU pathetic guys are doing as well. Which is ignore everything he tried to teach and simply amp up the racial garbage to a whole new extreme.
You guys are not even remotely represenatives or champions of racial equality. Instead, you guys .. and people like Mitchel .. you're just out for revenge. How dare white people breathe? Oh, that white guy looked at me in a way that offends me! HE MUST BE RACIST! Oh, look .. he got into a WHITE CAR! OH NO HE DIDN'T! It's a FORD, too! Good grief .. I'm gonna write a blog about how that racist white guy might have given me a funny look ... thus oppressed, offended and trampled on my RIGHTS! Reparations may be in order, too!
Pathetic ... you guys and everyone with your new twist on the VERY old fashioned HATE PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY'RE DIFFERENT game ... you're not part of the solution. YOU are THE problem!
